Children’s (5+) Martial Arts
Great students become great adults through the martial arts.
Here are six reasons why our children’s martial arts program stands apart from the rest
Learn to set goals.
Step by step, class by class, and belt by belt, your child will learn the value of hard work and goal setting to attain the ultimate goal in martial arts: a black belt. We will also teach your child how to take those same skills and apply them to their schoolwork and their other activities outside of the studio.
Build confidence.
Learning a new skill like martial arts takes time, and sometimes we fail when we are trying to learn. But your child will learn through martial arts that failure is fine as long as you try again and put in the effort. And when your child succeeds, they have more confidence to continue to meet the next challenge.
Master self-control.
Self-control means two things: the ability to not harm others and to control your actions. With safety as our top priority, we teach our junior students how to make physical contact so that they do not hurt each other. Further, we teach our children the importance of knowing when to take action or when to speak up, so that they can improve their own safety and behavior both in and out of our studio.
Improve character.
Martial arts is a great way to learn about respect for self and others, the value of truth and honesty, and how to apply proper etiquette. Our program teaches valuable life lessons so that our junior students can become better citizens.
Develop leadership skills.
A good leader leads by example. As your child improves their martial arts and life skills, they will have the opportunity to become leaders for the next generation of students and continue to share their talents with others.
Have fun!
Our dynamic instructors have combined decades of experience teaching martial arts, so we guarantee there will never be a dull moment in class! Our 45-minute junior classes are designed to be exciting, high-energy, and fast-paced so that your child can get a good workout and channel their pent-up energy into developing their skills.

Overcoming Shyness
When Abby started her martial arts journey, she was 4 years old and incredibly shy. She preferred to not even speak during her first class and was very closed off during her initial sessions. She was even afraid to participate. After working with Matt for many months, Abby began letting her vivacious personality come out. This culminated in Abby’s orange belt test taking place in front of a crowd of parents where she let everyone know that when she took the floor, she meant business!

Making a Strong Connection
James, a 7-year old with a learning disability came to Matt in hopes of being able to find a high-energy hobby. James had trouble keeping up with his fellow students and required extra time and attention to learn. After working with James, Matt discovered that James was a “tactile” learner, meaning he responded better to appropriate physical cues (like a tap on the hand or foot) over sound or visual cues, which are common in most afterschool activities. After discovering this, Matt was able to better communicate with James, and James enjoyed his classes more. Martial arts is all about discovery, and we discover and adjust to meet the needs of children who struggle and ensure they have a fulfilling experience.

Black Belt and Beyond
Ricky started his martial arts journey with Matt at 5 years old and remained his student until Matt moved away. When they parted ways, Ricky and his father promised to let Matt know when Ricky would test for his black belt. Ricky’s passion for the martial arts continued to grow under new instructors, which led to Ricky testing for his black belt at the age of 16. Sure enough, Matt flew back to participate in Ricky’s test and to present him his new black belt. Matt is proud to have created the building blocks of perseverance and patience in Ricky’s practice. Today, Ricky continues on his martial arts path to becoming an instructor, just like Matt.
